The coolant prevents engine overheating and also transfers the heat produced to other devices that use or dissipate it. A good coolant must have high thermal capacity, low viscosity, non-toxic, and be chemically inert neither causing nor promoting corrosion of the cooling system. An anti-freeze prevents the system from undergoing physical stresses and catastrophic deformation due to the expansion that occurs when water turns to ice, when the vehicle is operating in temperatures below freezing point. Some tips:
- Check level of coolant in the reservior regularly.
- If necessary, add coolant to the reservoir – NOT the radiator.
- Get a check up immediately if you observe overheating of engine, sweet smell, leaks or repeatedly need to add fluid.
